John 1:29-34
Seeing Jesus coming towards him,
John said, ‘Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the
world. This is the one I spoke of when I said: A man is coming after me who
ranks before me because he existed before me. I did not know him myself, and
yet it was to reveal him to Israel that I came baptising with water.’ John also
declared, ‘I saw the Spirit coming down on him from heaven like a dove and
resting on him. I did not know him myself, but he who sent me to baptise with
water had said to me, “The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and rest is
the one who is going to baptise with the Holy Spirit.” Yes, I have seen and I
am the witness that he is the Chosen One of God.’
Food for thought!
Jesus, as John himself had rightly observed, is the lamb of
God that takes away our sin. Please, notice that John says, "sin"in
the singular and not "sins"in the plural. Why is this so?
Because Romans 8:1 says "there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus." True, if you belong to Christ, you are safe. That's why we call Jesus our Saviour; that's why the name "Jesus" means “God saves;” and that's why John the Baptist calls him, "who takes away the sin of the world." Jesus is the lamb of God that takes away our condemnation.
Jesus makes us be born again, and as 1John 3:9 tells us, "Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God." Again from John 1:12-13 we gather that “to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”

As children of God, we all have an advocate, as 1 John 2 reminds us:
My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
As children of God, we are not supposed to sin. However,
human nature being what it is (fallen and wounded nature), we fail and fall
into sin again and again. That is is the bad news. The good news is that we
have Jesus, who takes away our sin. Sin brings guilt and if we don't deal with
our guilt, our guilt will deal with us. If we don't take away our guilt, our
guilt will take us away. Guilt is a powerful thing that eats us from inside
out. We can’t run from it. We can’t hide from it. We can’t escape its jaws. It
is always present.
The only solution for guilt is to bring the sin that caused it to Jesus. When we bring our sin to Him, Jesus forgives the sin and removes the guilt. He sets us free from the monster of guilt because He is the lamb of God that takes away our sin.
